D I N O S A U R I A

I'm one of the few people who never lost their childhood fascination for dinosaurs. Although I have specialized in Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology, I have studied Geology and found it to be the most interesting and absorbing subject. To the point where I study it in my spare time; like a boss.
08’2011. A Psittacosaurus illustrated with the newly discovered quills.  These are an early ancestor from which ceratopsians are the descendants.  They hail from the early Cretacous and have been found exceptionally preserved in laggerstatten. These unique fossils have preserved unususal quill-like structures that have not been found in any other Psittacosaurus fossil. It is now widely believed that many early ceratopsians possesed these structures as remains contain the same anchor points within the bone.  The function of the quills is still debated.  They may have supported a sail or, my favourite theory, been used like porcupine quills. Copyright 2012.  All rights reserved.
